Ok, so the next big music event that I attended was the Irish 2000 Music and Art Festival.  It took place from Friday September 17 to Saturday September 18 at Saratoga County Fairground in Ballston Spa, New York.  On Friday festivities began at 5 p.m. and ran until 11:15 that night.  We were running a little late because my party had to trek all the way from Long Island, to Buffalo, and finally made their way to Ballston Spa.
We made it there for the tail end of an act that took place from 6-7 p.m.  The group who was performing was entitled the "Screaming Orphans", an all-girl rock band with kind of a modern Tom Tom Club feel to their music.  We were a bit distracted from this act seeing as we were meeting up with a friend that we were seeing for the second time since we had met him a number of years prior.  The second performance we were able to see was one by "Gaelic Storm."  This band had an absolutely outstanding fiddle player and there was a very fun irish feel to their music.  The style was very modern, however it eluded to close traditional roots.

Gaeli Storm was followed by a performance by "Enter The Haggis."  These five Canadian guys put on an amazing performance.  They were organized like a rock band, plus yet another kick-ass violin player. They put on a really up-beat and fun performance.  One of my favorite songs that they performed was a song entitled "Gasoline" that made a statement about the way they human beings mistreat the environment.  "Enter The Haggis" did a great job of getting the audience involved in their performance in addition to having fun and putting on an awesome show.

The final act on Friday night was a performance by a group called "Flatfoot 56."  They were a lot heavier than the groups that proceeded them.  I have a feeling that I would enjoyed the performance a lot better if the sound people had done a better job of balancing the vocals with the rest of the instruments.  All in all though, for a heavier band I thoroughly enjoyed their performance.  It also allowed a bunch of people to get up and dance.
